Meet Rin LaJoy, our newest PTK Advisor! 🌟
What are you most excited about as you begin your role as a PTK advisor?
"I am excited to work closely with PTK officers and members who are passionate about giving back to their community and grow as engaged members of society. Working with students and helping them reach their personal and professional goals is fun and a true gift."
"My expertise in research and project management will help the Honors in Action (HIA) team conduct meaningful research about the power of storytelling in increasing a sense of well-being in people, particularly those in marginalized communities. As an evolutionary ecologist, I have managed several large research projects in my academic career. This experience will guide the HIA team as they navigate scholarly research and conduct a large-scale survey to understand how stories are passed down among students, their families, and their communities."
What do you hope to learn from your experience with PTK?
"I hope to learn about the PTK officers and members, what they are passionate about, and how I can best support them in reaching their goals. I’d like to continue refining the balance between advising and leading—supporting students without taking over. In HIA, research can have unexpected challenges, and my role is to help students navigate those challenges while allowing them the autonomy to lead. I look forward to growing as an advisor and being the best support I can be."
