Meet Miah Moore, our 2024-25 Vice President of History & Recruitment! 📖
What methods do you find most effective for recruiting new members?
“I think that just being approachable and upbeat is a great starting point for recruitment. My office hours are substituted for tabling, so I’m legit posted up during the hustle and bustle from class to class, class to home, class to food, etc. When I look around with a smile and start the conversation, it’s easy to draw in even shy people to talk about PTK. At that point, I ask what they already know and give them a brief summary of what we have to offer. I start there because even if they aren’t eligible, PTK is a great goal and motivator academically. The most impactful thing I’ve been able to say is that I actually received a scholarship. It helps the idea be less lofty and seem more achievable. Money talks!”
What’s your favorite part about connecting with potential members?
“I love breaking the ice and being a friendly/safe space for shy people. My favorite encounters are those with people who seem lost, timid, or scared because even if they don’t join PTK, I feel like I’m making campus a less anxiety-inducing place for them.”
Why is it important to preserve the history of our chapter?
“Preserving the history of our chapter is essential in testifying to the impact and relevance of PTK in our community. Being able to look back and reflect on our actual experiences provides sound anecdotal and even empirical data that confirms the importance of our presence on campus.”
