Meet The Team - Renee Cortez

It's been so fun introducing the team to you!✨

Let’s wrap up this series with a spotlight on our dedicated advisor, Renee Cortez!🌟

What has been the most rewarding part of advising PTK?

"I love advising students by developing relationships and helping them grow into their own success. As a first-gen, Latinx, low-income student myself, I decided during my college years that I wanted to work in a field where I would help other students like me succeed, because much of my own success was due to the faculty, staff, and fellow students around me. Each student I work with is unique, and I love getting to help them achieve their personal goals and the goals of the PTK chapter."

How have you seen the chapter grow and evolve during your time as an advisor?

"I came on as the advisor about a year and a half ago, so I’ve worked with three groups of officer teams. Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of growth in myself as an advisor during that time. PTK has many moving parts, and I’m still learning about all of it. Once I learn it, I teach my students."

What advice would you give to members who are just starting their PTK journey?

"My campus office is K1403, and my email is renee.cortez@normandale.edu. If you have questions about PTK, please reach out—I love answering questions! Also, apply for scholarships, attend PTK-sponsored events, and run for officer positions when they’re open. Attend Induction and nominate a professor for the Golden Apple event!"
